Air/Port events from August 21 until September 4

ninette&flagNow that Ramadan is over and Essaouira is full of visitors -both Moroccan and international- we have decided to up the ante and to organize a few events such as film screenings, a mural painting and an art fair where you can discover and buy wonderful works created by emerging artists.  And let’s not forget the dévernissage coming up on September 5th and the charity auction of original Air/port art works and flags (!) at Sofitel Mogador. We hope to see you at one or more of these events!

AIR/PORT 2013: Program

August 23:

• Outdoor Cinema: Woodstock (Michael Wadleigh)

– Auberge Tangaro – Free entrance – 8pm

An intimate look at the Woodstock Music & Art Festival held in Bethel, NY in 1969, from preparation through cleanup, with historic access to insiders, blistering concert footage, and portraits of the concertgoers; negative and positive aspects are shown, from drug use by performers to naked fans sliding in the mud, from the collapse of the fences by the unexpected hordes to the surreal arrival of National Guard helicopters with food and medical assistance for the impromptu city of 500,000.

Desdemona, daughter of a Venetian aristocrat, elopes with Moorish military hero Othello, to the great resentment of Othello’s envious underling Lago. Alas, Lago knows Othello’s weakness, and with chilling malice works on him with but too good effect…

Workshop and painting of a mural by the participating artists along a wall on the rue Abbas Esaaadi.

August 28:

• Cinema: Portable Life (Fleur Boonman)

– Musée Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah – Free entrance – 8pm

In the mist at the edge of a lake, the 17-year-old Sea (Ella-June Henrard) finds a mysterious medallion. It is the start of a journey around the world in which Sea lets herself be led through unexpected twists, turns and mysterious signs to discover that there is an irreversible link between the intriguing acquaintances and magical places she finds on her way. • ART FAIR: Bastion Bab Marrakech

An art fair that encourages the discovery of the artistic scene of Essaouira. It will be held at Bastion Bab Marrakech with multiple galleries and artists of Essaouira participating.

September 4

• Cinema: Kingdom of Heaven

“Kingdom of Heaven” is about a common man who finds himself thrust into a decades- long war.
